Foreign Languages
Foreign language requirement:
All BA and BFA students in the College must demonstrate proficiency equivalent to 4 semesters
of foreign language study. Although there is slight variation among the BS degrees,
most require 3 semesters of foreign language study.
In addition, some degrees, such as the BA in International Studies, require 6 semesters of
foreign language study.
Foreign Languages offered with a consistent 4-semester sequence
(thus allowing the language to work for the degree requirement) = 40 languages:
Additional languages taught in the last 10 years at IUB = 37 languages.
Some of these languages are taught only in the summer or only for two semesters.
New languages are constantly added to the curriculum.
