The IU STARS application period for fall 2008 is now CLOSED.
If you’re an outstanding high school student and you’re planning a career in science, IU STARS can provide you the
competitive edge necessary for success. The IU STARS Program gives a select group of science majors an opportunity
to conduct research while earning a bachelor’s degree at IU.
Here’s what IU STARS offers you:
- Four years of laboratory research experience as an undergraduate starting your first semester at IU
- Mentoring by a leading faculty scientist throughout your undergraduate career
- Automatic consideration for a Gill full-tuition scholarship
- An annual stipend for research projects, for journal subscriptions, and for travel to scientific conferences
- Participation in the annual IU STARS Research Symposium
- Excellent preparation for graduate study and for challenging jobs in the sciences
- Students who wish to obtain academic credit for their STARS research are allowed and encouraged to do so, beginning in the fifth semester of STARS participation, by enrolling in the independent research course offered by their major department. Students who wish to obtain academic credit for their STARS research at an earlier point must receive permission from their STARS mentor.

"Through the IU Stars Program I’ve had the opportunity to work with prestigious faculty on independent research projects,
to present my research findings, and to determine my real research interest, which is social psychology. IU STARS is a wonderful support system."
